From Halloween to Easter, there are endless gatherings, dinners and cozy nights where you expend energy just streering yourself away from the dessert table, never mind getting yourself from a dinner party to the gym. The American Counsilon Exercise (ACE) has 10 great ways to stay on top of your healthy lifestyle during these lazy months.
1. Take personal time. You can get overwhelmed with family and friends, but it's curcuail to set aside time to take a few deep breaths and let out your stress.
2. Don't aim too high. If you don't want the uneccesary guilt, don't try to do more than you're capable of. A im for 30 minutes of exercise a day instead of an hour, or break it up in chunks throughout the day so your goal is less daunting.
3. Use the Buddy System. Training and chatting with a family member or friend is a great way to squeeze in some cardio, burn fat and reduce stress. The buddy system has been proven time and time again to help people stick with their programs.
4. Take on a new (active) tradition. Instead of your annual pot luck, take part in an annual citywide marathon or building a snowman with friends and family.
5. Don't starve yourself at family dinners. If you try to cut out a certain food altogether, you could feel deprived and cranky. Eat your favorite foods in small portions then get a glass of water and start up conversations.
6. Get plenty of water. When it's chilly outside, you'll be less inclined to drink water, but it can save you loads of calories. Water will also help fight travel dehydration.
7. Space out your meals. No need to devour everything at once. After a snack, take a family stroll and come back for a healthy dinner.
8. Acknowledge liquid calories. Coffee and alcohol (both common in colder months) cause your blood sugar levels to rise and make you want to eat more.
9. Forget about being perfect. Nobody can be perfect so don't expect yourself to be or you will always let yourself down. Be excellent at your own level.
10. Make fitness a top priority. Get up early and hit the gym before any daily interuptions get in the way.
