I had someone ask me about snacks and that is a wonderful questions, so thought I would pass the answer along to everyone.
I don't normally eat snacks, but if I do, I normally pick up a piece of fruit like a plum, nectarine, strawberries, blueberries, cherries (I try to avoid bananas and apples as they are higher in calories) or about 1/4 cup of raw nuts, normally almonds. Raw nuts are so healthy for you compared to processed nuts. If you are having a low sugar feeling, then the nuts are the perfect fix. They are high fat, but GOOD fat and will bring up that sugar level for a long period of time and not for a quick fix that will drop you like a candy bar will.
For the kids, they can choose from yogurt, mozzarella cheese sticks or a piece of fruit. They get 1-2 snacks between meals.
I wanted to give you an example of the kind of sandwiches I eat. My favorite is to toast two pieces of Ezekiel bread, spread miracle whip light, spread 1/2 of a ripe avocado on one side and lightly salt, then put about 4 thin deli slices of chicken or turkey breast. Sometimes I will add a tomato slice too. Another sandwich I love to make is using the Ezekiel bread, I make a tuna (with miracle whip light) melt by spraying cooking spray in a frying pan, placing a slice of low cal/low fat cheese (usually the white cheeses are best) and then add the tuna and then cook like a grilled cheese. It comes out so yummy!
So on the evenings I choose to eat a sandwich instead of cereal, those are examples of the kinds I make. I didn't want anyone to think eating a bologna and cheese or a peanut butter and jelly on white bread was what I ate! It does make a difference what kind of sandwich you eat, especially for dinner.
