AUGUST 2005
Hello weight loss buddies!  I pray this newsletter finds you well and motivated!  Would love to hear updates and appreciate the ones I have already received.

It has been a crazy past two weeks!  Not only was I finishing up performing in "The Music Man"(I attached some pictures!), I had mid-term exams for college!  I am also preparing for my youngest's 3rd birthday and getting the other kids registered for school.  My oldest begins high school this year *sniff*sniff*.   So please forgive me for not responding to emails or getting the menu's out to those of you who signed up for weekly menu's.  I have had to eat out A LOT this week.  Most of the time I made good choices, sometimes made bad ones *shrug*, but the end result....No weight gain and an inch lost!  Yeah!  So all this training is paying off, even when faced with challenges like eating out.  I am now training to run a 500K run in 6 weeks.  I have always wanted to do this each year with my husband and for the first time in my life, I think I will be able to.  My time is 30 minutes right now and I hope to lower that quite a bit!  The latest on the Tae Bo informercial is that the dates have changed to September 6th.  It was supposed to be next week, but due to scheduling problems, it was changed.  Will let you know more information as I hear it!

Is Peanut Butter bad for you?

Many wonder if this food is just too fattening to consume, but actually it is a great source of protein and because it contains unsaturated fat, it won't effect your bad cholesterol.  Of course if you eat too much of it, it will be fattening, so like anything, eat it in moderation.  The serving size is 2 tbsp and I wouldn't eat more than that each day.  I enjoy eating it right off a spoon for instant energy or spread on a slice of whole wheat toast or Eziekal bread.  If you add jelly or use crackers, you may be adding too many calories than you need to.  Nuts are really good for you, just do not eat too many! Essential fatty acids are necessary for elevated mood, beautiful skin, healthy immune system, increased mental clarity and normalizing weight (you need to eat fat to burn fat).

Did you know sugar can AGE you?

I don't have to tell you twice that refined sugar is not good for us, but research is finding more and more reasons not to eat it.  According to Dr. Perricone, sugar causes inflammation that destroys our bodies and attaches to collagen which results in stiff, inflexible and sagging skin. By controlling your blood sugar levels, you can not only improve your health, but give yourself youthful looking skin.   One of the biggest compliments I have received since losing weight is how young I look.  The staff at my husband's work keep mistaking me for his daughter and my principal at the school I teach at keeps mistaking me for a student!  It works my friends!  Our skin is a perfect reflection of our internal health.  I sometimes take a collagen supplement, especially since I tend to be out in the sun a lot and also take a vitamin called Sun Scape.
