On September 16th the Brownwood Texas Reunion will be holding the annual 5K run. A 5K run is 3.2 miles and the route goes through downtown Brownwood. I want you on my Fit By Faith team!
Now, for many of you, the first thoughts that came to your mind were:
"No way could I run in a race, especially 3 miles, I can barely walk !"
"I am just not in good enough shape to do something like this"
"I really dislike running and I don't think my knees could take it"
"I would be embarrassed to even attempt it"
"I am too old and I haven't run in years"
Am I right? Well, those were the thoughts that ran through my head when I first thought about doing it. I still am not a great fan of running, but a good kick in the rear to my attitude makes me enjoy it doing it and I LOVE a challenge!
One thing I have learned is the importance in challenging yourself. Making yourself do something you never thought you could do. Things like this are so much more than the physical, they are about the mind. When I was going through that intense bootcamp a week ago, the physical was history after a good 10 hours and it was all up to what my mind could take, what I was willing to push it through. Separating my 5 senses from my spirit so I could operate solely in spirit.
It doesn't matter if you have to walk half the race, just crossing that finish line will renew in you a strength and power and conquering you have never felt before. To set out to do something you never imagined you could do and be a winner simply by finishing it. If you haven't already, check out the 5K run from last year.

I always wondered why we run away from challenges. I think it is because we fear we will be in worse shape if we fail. Failure is giving up before you even start. Letting your past rule your future. This is where walking in faith comes in. We have to walk in faith, not walk in our past, not walk by what we or the world sees or says, but we must walk in the faith that Jesus Christ gives us the ability, power and might to achieve anything if we trust Him and honor Him in anything we do. We have to leave our comfort zone if we ever want to be the person we want to be. If we stay in our comfort zone, we have already limited ourselves so much and we become boxed in, depressed, lost, unsatisfied and we never become or experience the person God meant us to be.
If you live in the Brownwood area, have two working legs and no serious health problems, then there is no reason why you couldn't do this. I challenge you to step out in faith, to give me the honor of having you on my Fit By Faith team and joining me in this race that will do amazing things for you spiritually, mentally and physically. There is no need to fear because we will be a team! If you live near Brownwood or even if you don't and feel strongly about being here for this race and have the ability to come, do it! The enemy will try to stop you and discourage you as you plan for this, but each time you hit an obstacle, remember that is confirmation that you are to go and knock that booger out of your way! God tells us that with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible so if God is saying all things are possible, then if you come up with excuses as to why you can't, then you are contradicting God's Word!
Obviously, you do want to prepare physically and so I have a "couch potato to 5K" training plan. Also, again, if you have to walk, there is nothing wrong with that---in fact they have a Locomotion 1.5 mile walk. This is about the mental, not they physical. Just crossing that finishing line whether it be first or last place makes you a winner!
It is set up for a 9 week training, so you will need to start at the last 3 weeks in order to make the Sept. deadline. It is wise to seek your doctor's advice also before training.
It is time to step out and show that devil that you can conquer anything regardless of your age or size! There was a 74 year old man who had an incredible time at last years race and my 11 and 15 year old will both be running!
Blessings and remember, failure is not falling, how you choose to handle that fall determines failure.
